v0.7.1 Hotfix
jOeSU » Devlog
The reason for this update being so soon is that an oversight was discovered which made chapter 2's boss impossible to play on low graphics settings. I guess I wanted to remove the flashy animation for notes moving position but forgot to add in the low settings replacement, causing notes to change their type and not actually move!
New Stuff:
- Added in a little suprise for April 1st.
- Updated the credits.
Changes:
- The loading screen logo now rolls in the correct direction, whoops.
- Changed the way notes are drawn to allow for some cool updates in the future.
- Made Joanna's combo animation a little faster.
- Optimised the texture grouping.
- Reduced the filesize a bit.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed the aforementioned oversight which broke chapter 2's boss when on low graphics settings.
- Fixed a bug which stopped Discord Rich Presence from updating the songs title.

I think that there is still a lot of work to be done with bug fixes. There is also an improvement that I request. I request that you fix notes being out of sync with the music depending on the game's FPS. I've noticed that songs have notes out of sync but then sometimes it fixes itself and it seems that the game's FPS is affecting when the notes are played. This is a terrible design for a rhythm game and thus it would be best to fix it soon.
Sorry that you've been having trouble with de-sync, some of this game's most important code is also very old and outdated which causes this issue. It has definitely caused myself a ton of issues, too.
Since the start of this project I have become much better at making rhythm games and I know how to fix this issue, but doing so would pretty much require remaking all of the games gameplay content from scratch! As you can imagine this would take me an enourmous amount of time.
I'm just as frustrated by this as you may be, but I hope you can find solace in the fact that I am currently working on a new rhythm game project which aims to tackle a lot of jOeSU's issues.
Sorry that I can't be of too much help here, if I had a time machine I would slap old me in the face :)
Thank you for playing my game and leaving feedback, it's really useful and keeps me motivated! Hopefully I can release an early version of this new game once I'm a bit less busy.
You're welcome. If you ever update this game in the future, I would also suggest that you make the editor less of a pain to use, such as making the timeline more navigatable. (For some reason moving through the right click and pressing space to play just plops you at the beginning of the song, which might become a pain to keep replaying the song as your level gets longer) I hope you can also do this with your next rhythm project. Perhaps once you're no longer busy with that project you could do the overhaul that the game needs?
